Summary
This article provides detailed instructions for conducting Social Security Number (SSN) searches. It describes the process for reviewing both Match and No Match results within the Social Security Death Master File (SSDMF). When a match is identified, the results appear in red under Other Exclusions, displaying key details such as the individual’s name, date of birth, and date of death. When no match is found, a green Clear status is shown. For clients contracted for SSN Instant Searches, the system delivers exact match results directly from the SSDMF.
How to Search by SSN
To conduct a search using SSN, enter the SSN in the SSN Search field:
The SSN must be 9 digits long and contain numbers only; otherwise, you will be unable to complete the SSN search. A warning will display that a valid 9-digit SSN must be entered as shown below:

If an SSDMF match is found, it will be indicated in red with a Match result and nested beneath Other Exclusions.
Details regarding the SSDMF matches can be accessed by clicking the arrow on the right side of the result.
Details from the SSDMF will be provided and will include the following:
Date Of Birth
Date Of Death
First Name
Last Name
SSDMF No Match
If there is no SSDMF match found, a green Clear status will display beneath the Other Exclusions category.
